Doing it everyday keeps the standard steady. Not the same, but steady. Just like your emotions — and probably because of them — it fluctuates, and there may be a trend.
But when you let it stagnate, the standards rise. “I haven’t done it in 3 weeks, so this time it has to be extra special”, and on, and on, and on… Until you say “Screw it, I’ve had enough”. Today is one of those days — just 10 days later.
